THE POISONED GIFT

When did the story of struggle over Palestinian territory, the mutual terror and unlawful imprisonments, the rapes and the murders start?

It all started the moment colonial powers decided to make amends for Holocaust by giving away what was not theirs to give. Rather than hand the survivors a Land in Germany or a chunk of Poland, somewhere far away was wrapped up and handed over with a ribbon tied around it. It turned out the place was full of people.

Israel is a European colonization project. Arabs had no hand in the Endlösung: That was a European deed. And yet, Palestinians are paying the price. A new Holocaust is taking place while all we can talk about is Ukraine (and by all means, let us support Ukraine, but let us cut out the double standards and find it in our hearts to also weep for brown babies).

Israel seems founded on collective trauma. The arguments fielded refer to this enormous trauma, and yet we are supposed to understand it all as reasonable and just. But it is not. And it is creating trauma of its own on both sides. What good can ever come of that?

Israel is eating its young, turning them into monsters who believe they are fighting monsters. Israel is doing unto the Palestinians what Europeans did to the Jews. And should a Jew dare say that aloud, he is tarnished as a self-hating traitor.
